TOKI! New Male Voices contains music composed in the 1980's. It was recorded with Mr Tapani Länsiö in 1990. One of the aims of this record is to prove that the male choir is fully capable of rising to the challenges posed by conteporary music. The sound of the male choir loses none of its enchantment in melodies of free tonality, dissonant harmonies and shifting time signatures. The composers represented on this record have simply exploited the potential hidden beneath the surface of traditional music. "Tokko" for male choir and tape by Jukka Tiensuu, one of the works presented here, won the UNESCO International Rostrum for Composers in Paris in 1988.
